Summertime BBQ

One thing is for certain, when you play in a country band in Texas and travel the road during the summer, you better be prepared to throw down some brisket, sausage, and all the fixings. At outdoor festivals as well as most other venues we play the catering for the day is almost guaranteed to be BBQ.

After 2 summers with Aaron traveling the many roads and highways of Texas to all sorts of different regions and towns I've encountered my fair share of versions of the "best damn BBQ in Texas." Most of these have been quite delectable and high in flavor value. And then on the other end of the spectrum you're also guaranteed to run into what I like to call "Bar-B-Chew," which as you probably guessed is the lesser end of what Texas has to offer.

With flavors and seasonings ranging as wide as the different types of terrain strewn across this great state, I can tell you almost immediately after biting into the locally rumored "best BBQ in town" just how their share of Texas-Q stacks up against the competition. In most cases the product can usually be counted as just mediocre or average amongst such a time honored and true and true Texas heritage. Sometimes I don't think people realize how HUGE of a statement it is to claim you have the best BBQ within this whole great state because let me assure you Texas is B-I-G. And if you claim your meat is the best in the Lone Star state the flavor better be just as big.

El Paso rocked it this past Friday with what appeared to be the best crowd yet. I can hardly wait for our next trip across the desert to revisit this destination. Just as I had forecast at the begining of the month Saturday was indeed quite the event. With band playing all day long and a steady flow of people coming through the gates as soon as they were opened, by the time our set came around at 10:45 the people were more than ready for one last bite of Texas music before they called it a night. And with a punctuate end right at the stroke of midnight the day couldn't have been any more of a success!
